Me at a Glance.
Hi, I'm Hayley B.
I am: Focused on learning and development strategies. Skilled in small group management. Comfortable speaking to crowds and to the camera. Experienced in social research, technical writing, and media production.
EDUCATION:
I finished a Ph.D. in 2021: Public Communication and Technology. I earned candidacy in November 2019 while working as a Student Success Coach. I prepared for the dissertation research stage throughout the pandemic and collected data over the Winter/Spring of 2021 to defend in October. I balanced this work with a full-time career through project and time management strategies.
CAREER:
I seek environments where my curiosity to engage with new concepts, my productive personality, and my need for variability in my day are valued. My career goals revolve around producing timely and relevant content to help partners succeed. I have worked directly with students in and out of the classroom, advising professionals, student affairs staff, faculty, and admissions staff towards retention and success outcomes. I continue to learn and leverage new media tools to create content and manage my goals.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Upper-Division Social Technologies and AI
Lower-Division Business and Technical Writing
Upper-Division Public Relations Techniques
Upper-Division Social Media Campaigns
Lower-Division Media and Society
Industry Career Responsibilities:
Managed digital products for student academic success (OnBase workflow, Microsoft Virtual Agents, social media presence, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint sites, EMMA email systems). These products increased confidence and autonomy among students and staff, with over 4k hits on the student website a semester (our undergrad population was 8,000) and over 800 hits on the advisor website (40+ advising staff). I also built over 20 topics for the advising virtual agent (chatbot) that assisted staff with basic policy, deadline, and context questions, leading to fewer disruptions in the workflow (like waiting for a response in the larger human chat).
Developed training modules and materials for advising professionals. I created, curated, and facilitated over 40 workshops last year with a 65% attendance rate at voluntary activities and over 20 hours of on-demand content. Plus, folks told me they were always high-energy, funny, and helpful.
Assessed data for student success programming. I provided mid- and end-of-semester reports to the AVP of Student Success and advised directors that gave insight and structure to recommended action items towards retention and academic review. I analyzed over 160 qualitative student responses from a survey and identified three gaps in support and resources that will be filled by a new on-demand product targeted toward students.
VISION STATEMENT:
Being a collaborative work-leader managing communication-oriented projects and empowering others to grow. Self-efficacy, curiosity, and discipline propel my life forward; my trajectory--along with anyone who works with me-- looks upward and onward.
